Full character turnaround
Pose-specific deformer system
Slider based master controllers
Deformer Test
Rig Overview
This project is a fully functional 360° character rig of Patrick Star, created in Toon Boom Harmony, with a focus on clean deformation, stability, and efficient animation control.
The rig is built using a model sheet reference and designed to support smooth animation across all angles without slipping, popping, or visual inconsistencies.
Rig Features
• Full 360° turnaround system
Each angle of the character is supported by its own set of drawings and deformers, allowing for consistent volume and clean transitions throughout the rotation.
• Deformer-based workflow
Rather than relying on a single universal deformation setup, each angle in the turnaround has its own dedicated set of deformers, specifically designed for that pose. I did this to achieve more organic motion and better shape control, which suits the soft, flexible nature of the character.
• Dedicated drawing layers per pose
Each body part is separated into pose-specific drawing layers, ensuring that transitions between angles remain visually accurate and free of clipping or sliding issues.
• Master control system with sliders
Four main slider-based master controllers were created:
* Left Eye Control
* Right Eye Control
* Mouth Shapes
* Full Character Turnaround
• Mouth system
A full set of 16 mouth shapes has been implemented to support a wide range of expressions and potential lip sync workflows.
• Eye system with pose-aware variations
Each pose includes two eye variations, and all are linked through a centralized slider system for fast and intuitive access during animation.
Goals & Focus
The goal of this rig was to push both technical complexity and animation usability, while maintaining clean structure and efficient control. Special attention was given to:
* Preventing deformation artifacts
* Maintaining consistent proportions across angles
* Streamlining animator interaction through slider controls
This project represents one of my most detailed rigging setups to date, combining structured node organization with flexible animation tools.
